?Health is wealth.? You can always amass wealth at any point in your lifetime but if health deteriorates once, then you have lost the battle against time. We need to take care of our health in order to be there for our family and friends. But we never know what to expect in the future. Is long-term health care insurance necessary?
Last week, Medicare funding for nursing homes was reduced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services by what is estimated at being at least $16 billion during the next 10 years. Already this year 24 states have reduced their funding for Medicaid. And in order to fund health care reform programs, the administration has already proposed the reduction of another $313 billion for Medicaid.

WASHINGTON It is being warned by representatives of the health insurance industry that the comprehensive health care bill being put forth in the Senate could increase the cost of a typical policy by hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars a year. This follows an easing up by lawmakers with respect to the requirement that all Americans get coverage.

A recently proposed Senate health committee bill requires that the government provide financial assistance through the support of premiums for individuals and families. Limits are set at family incomes of four times the federal poverty level, which is about $88,000 for a family of four. This represents a broad cross-section of the middle class. This is just one part of a broader Senate bill that is still under development.
